Toby is the co-founder of the International Forum for Democracy and Human Rights (IFDHR). He is a Barrister member at Nine Bedford Row International Chambers in London, a member of the International Criminal Bureau in The Hague and a partner at Omnia Strategy LLP. He is an international criminal law specialist in the areas of war crimes, international terrorism, extradition and mutual legal assistance, judicial review, prison law and human rights law. Toby’s particular area of expertise is international legal obligations and the UN system of protection.
Toby has appeared and been instructed in matters before the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh, the European Court of Human Rights, the Bosnian War Crimes Chamber and the UN Human Rights Committee.
Toby brings together an array of skills including professional lobbying, crisis management, public relations in order to deliver on client objectives.
Toby’s growing network of associates enables IFDHR to deliver results to clients in diverse markets that require close working client relations and strategic advice and assistance.
Toby speaks English, intermediate Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and French. He is also currently studying Arabic.
He serves as President of the IFDHR.
Almudena Bernabeu is co-founder of the International Forum for Democracy and Human Rights (IFDHR).
As International Attorney Ms. Bernabeu leads the Latin American and European program at the US based organization Center for Justice & Accountability serving on US-based civil Alien Tort Statute litigation and universal jurisdiction prosecutions before the Spanish National Court. Ms. Bernabeu is also Director of CJA’s Transitional Justice Program. Almudena currently serves as the lead private prosecutor on two cases before the Spanish National Court: one filed on behalf of survivors of the Guatemalan Genocide and the other brought against senior Salvadoran officials for the massacre of Jesuit priests in 1989. Ms. Bernabeu holds a LLM degree from the University Of Valencia School Of Law, where she specialized in Public International Law. Trained in Spanish and US law, she is a member of the Valencia and Madrid Bar Associations and the American Bar Association.
Ms. Bernabeu serves as Vice President of IFDHR.
Carl Buckley serves as Director of Programming at IFDHR.
Carl has served previously as a senior partner at the TMC Advisory Group and a Partner at one of the largest Criminal Defence and Prison Law solicitors firms in the UK, providing advice and representation to clients held in both the UK and foreign jurisdictions. He is experienced in bringing matter before the High Courts, Appellate courts, and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
He has particular expertise in working with international monitoring bodies such as Fair Trials Abroad and Fair Trials International, lecturing on all issues involving Penal Policy and Human Rights.
Carl is ideally placed to provide assistance to individuals, organisations, corporations and Foreign States concerning individuals detained in custody as well as more general assistance on all issues of penal policy and applicable human rights mechanisms.
Nenad serves as a Director of the IFDHR and Operations Manager.
Nenad is a professionally qualified, highly experienced economist/operations manager with extensive knowledge and skills in all aspects of business management in the services. He has a proven international track record in launching, developing and successfully operations in the entertainment industry, including managing film and television studios in a complex, divers and emerging market. He is used to working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. He strives on being part of a team developing new projects in order to implement his skills of research, statistical analysis and operational management.
Nenad is responsible for the general management of IFDHR in the Balkans. Nenad is fluent is Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian and English. He also speaks Slovenian.
